CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

Family and friends of a murdered UNC student gathered Saturday to mark the one-year anniversary of her death.

More than 150 people came out Saturday to honor Faith Hedgepeth, who was known for her spirit, her joy and her sharp wit.

Her family and friends say everyone loved the UNC student, which is why they're at a loss as to who could have killed her.

Starting around 8 p.m., they walked in silence from UNC's Bell Tower Amphitheater to the Old Well. One by one, a white carnation was laid on the Old Well to honor Hedgepeth.

Roland Hedgepeth is Faith's father and said, "It's been a long time. It's been a year. I'm really just drained. I want to know why, more than anything."

Hedgepeth was found dead on the morning of Sept. 7, 2012, inside her off-campus apartment.

The 19-year-old had gone out with friends at a local night club the evening beforehand. Police say they believe the killer knew Hedgepeth and most likely lived nearby.

Results from the North Carolina State Crime Lab have revealed DNA left at the scene of the murder of Hedgepeth is that of a male suspect.

Chadwick Hedgepeth, Faith's older brother asked, "What are investigators doing to catch that person?"

Those questions linger, as family and friends struggle to cope with their loss.
