FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

An artist known for painting American flag murals across the country is now at work in Fayetteville.

Scott LoBaido has painted at least one American flag in every state. He is credited with painting the "world's largest version of Old Glory" on a factory rooftop in Houston. That mural covers 150,000 sq. ft. (3.5 acres).

On Monday, he started painting his newest mural in Festival Park. He expects to be finished by Tuesday.

LoBaido says it is his way of saying thank you to America's service members.

"There was a guy here today. He was in Vietnam, and he served in 91 in the gulf war," LoBaido said Monday. "He was thanking me up and down. I was like, no. Thank you. Thank you first. This is my return gift to you."

LoBaido also paints some of his murals, including the one in Fayetteville, as a way to promote upcoming concerts by Gary Sinise and The Lt. Dan Band. The band is performing Friday night in Festival Park. Money raised goes to a program within the Stephen Stiller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

According to the website, the program builds smart homes "for our most catastrophically injured service members returning home. Each home is custom designed to address the unique needs of each individual. Energy efficient, automated and easily accessible—these homes use "adaptive technology" to help our most severely injured heroes live better, more independent lives."

Friday's concert is helping build a home for Marine Staff Sgt. Thomas McRae in Maple Hill, NC, and Army Master Sgt. John Masson in Fayetteville. Both men are triple amputees and Purple Heart recipients as a result of IED explosions in Afghanistan.

The concert is at 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets are available at LtDanBandTickets.com
