Cumberland Co. detectives searching for suspects in debit card theft scheme

Posted: Updated:
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Sheriff's detectives in Cumberland County are looking for a group of suspects who they believe are targeting innocent victims in a debit card theft scheme.

The department is working with local banks and their customers in an effort to catch the suspects.

Officials believe the group includes at least three women and two men. They were captured on surveillance footage withdrawing money using stolen debit cards.

Authorities say the suspects target their victims while they're in a business making purchases with their debit card. They hang around nearby to get a look at their victim's personal codes and then follow them home and steal the cards.

So far, least four suspects have been connected to the scheme. If you have any information regarding these thefts or are able to identify these suspects, please contact the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at (910) 323-1500.
