Valley attorney announces bid for Alabama Legislature

VALLEY, Ala. -

A Valley, Ala. Attorney has announced he will run for a position in the Alabama Legislature.

Isaac Whorton made the announcement Monday and said he will be seeking the House District 38 seat.

Whorton is a lifelong resident of Lee and Chamber Counties. He said one of the main reasons he is running is to help make the area a place where his kids will be able to return and raise their families.

"When I was growing up, we had cotton mills and industrial jobs in the district where a person could work and raise a family. Today, too many parents are watching their kids move to Atlanta or Birmingham because they can't find jobs in the area. I want to work to improve education and bring jobs back so our children will be able to raise their families here," Whorton said.

He said he will also make transparency and accessibility priorities. Whorton said, "Too often the politicians in Montgomery think they know better than we do what is good for our community. They get together and pass bills in the dark of night without any input from the people. In my view, there is no better way to serve the citizens of District 38 than to seek input from the people to find out what is important to them."

Whorton is a former member and chairman of the City of Valley Planning Commission.
