LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

Rebecca Ann Sedwick, 12, of Lakeland, left home Monday morning to catch the school bus, her mother thought. She never made it to the bus. Polk County deputies found her dead body early Tuesday morning.

PCSO detectives are investigating her death. Rebecca's mother said she later found out, Rebecca had left without the school books on Monday.

When the girl didn't come home from school that day, her mother reported her missing.

Rebecca has mentioned harming herself before, according to the PCSO report.

Detectives are investigating the scene where they found the body. That property at 315 N. Eastside Drive in Lakeland used to be a cement company.
