The Fuquay-Varina Athletic Association will dissolve Nov. 22, its board of directors announced Wednesday.
The board, in an announcement on the FVAA.org website, said the decision does not impact the fall sports currently underway.
The FVAA blamed the decision on the town of Fuquay-Varina's decision in August 2012 to offer its own recreational sports programs.
"This initial Town decision, and the Town's subsequent unwillingness to even allow any FVAA sports to lease fields or gym space for entire sports seasons, resulted in unsustainable fiscal difficulties which have forced our organization to suspend operations after all Fall Sports have finished their current seasons," FVAA said.
The town's decision in 2012 had an impact on the FVAA and its 2,200 families at the time. The town had partnered with FVAA since 1989 before that.
