Johnston Co. to hold teen driving workshop Sept. 21

Posted: Updated:
SMITHFIELD, N.C. -

Johnston County will hold a teen driving working on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Johnston Medical Mall at 514 North Brightleaf Blvd. in Smithfield.

The county has been devastated by numerous teen driving accidents and fatalities in recent years and is trying to educate teens on how to be better drivers.

A team of teens from throughout the school system will participate in the workshop, from 8 a.m. until noon. The idea is to help students learn how to promote safe driving at their schools.

One website, jocoteendrivers.com, even tracks the teen fatalities in the county. The number peaked at 11 in 2007 but has dropped in the years since.
