SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ -

A portion of a boardwalk in a New Jersey town hit hard by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 is now an 8-alarm fire.

The  fire broke out in Seaside Heights around 2:15 p.m. inside an establishment on the boardwalk, according to CBS-affilate KYW. As a result of the fire, multiple explosions could be heard.

Helicopter footage from the scene shows a huge plume of black smoke rising along the shoreline.

There were no initial reports of injuries but fire damage has stretched several blocks and is very extensive.
