NC State hosting Dog Olympics Saturday

If you're a dog owner and are looking to exercise and meet others dogs and owners, the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University will host the 22ndAnnual Dog Olympics on Saturday.

Held at the "hearth" of the N.C. State Centennial Biomedical Campus, the Dog Olympics recognizes the special relationships dogs share with humans and raises money or animal rescue groups in the area.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fees for competitors and their dogs is $5, which covers the entry fee for one event and a photo of the winning dog on the Olympic platform. Non-competing dogs and owners are $2 and individuals are $1. Children ages 5 and under are free of charge.

A free microchip clinic, rescue groups, canine demonstrations and a "custom cart" for paralympic dogs with spinal cord injuries will be provided.

The contests include: Rollover Rover, Longest Tail, Frisbee Toss, Howling Contest, Musical Sit, Look-a-Like, best Trick, Best Beggar and the high jump.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome.
