Posted: Updated:

September is National Sickle Cell Disease Month.

Research shows Sickle Cell Disease affects one in every 375 African Americans. In the United States, sickle cell disease occurs in 1 in every 2,500 births, greater than that of any other condition detected by newborn screening.

The Association of Sickle Cell is sponsoring its annual Sickle Cell Walk-A-Thon/Parade on September 21, 2013.

The Association of Sickle Cell hopes to increase awareness of Sickle Cell and raise funds to benefit sickle cell patients in the local area.

Participants are asked to register with a financial donation on or before the day of the Walk/Parade. There is no designated fee amount to participate. All gifts are welcome.

For more information call (706) 566-6329.
