The University of Alabama systems Board of Trustees has approved a storm shelter to be built on the UA campus in Tuscaloosa.
The shelter will be a 5,200-square-foot freestanding building. The shelter will be capable of holding more than 700 people on the east side of campus.
The estimated construction cost is $1.68 million, about half of which would be funded by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant money.
