Study: 1 in 8 workers will never retire

Posted: Updated:

A new reality for retirement?

According to a new global report by London-based bank HSBC, one in eight workers will never be able to retire fully because they don't have enough income.

The report blames high unemployment and low wages for pushing retirement out of reach.

Longer life expectancy has also made the problem worse.

The report found that, on average, people expect to retire for 18 years, but they've only saved enough for 10 years.

Of the 16 thousand workers in the 15 countries surveyed, workers in the UK and US have it the worst.

About one in five people say they will never be able to give up work completely.
