Enrollment of full-time students at Columbus Technical College is up eleven percent over the past year.
A report by the Technical College System of Georgia, which oversees the state's technical colleges, says in fiscal year 2013, 3,297 full-time students were enrolled at Columbus Tech. That compares to 2,965 full-time students in 2012.
Only two other technical colleges in the system had higher full-time enrollment numbers. In fact, the system as a whole saw enrollment decline by just over two percentage points over that same time period.
Tara Askew is the Vice-President of Student Affairs at Columbus Tech. She says technical colleges are an attractive financial option. She says, "Oftentimes our new students are surprised at how much they can get for their money, especially when you're talking about per credit hour tuition that's $85 as opposed to two, three, or ven four hundred dollars in some instances."
