Roof rats invading Texas homes

Posted: Updated:

An unusual species of rat is invading some Houston, Texas homes. "Roof Rats" are entering homes from trees and other sources, infesting walls and attics.

Critter control experts have been working none stop to rid residents of the rodents.

Amy Hancock said she knew something was off when she heard scratching in the walls inside her master bedroom. "My original thought was what's trying to get in and why does it want to be in our house.

Experts said the rodents can chew on wiring and cause electrical shortages. They recommend being proactive to avoid infestations. Closing up any holes into homes and cutting back trees and vines near the home can help keep rats out.

Experts believe a large acorn crop caused the rodent population to increase.
