St. Pete cop shoots and kills ax-wielding man

ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -


A St. Petersburg police officer shot a man who officers say was threatening people with an ax on Monday night.

Police say two officers arrived at the scene at Central Avenue and 4th Street North at about 6:45 p.m.

Officers say as they approached the man, he charged at one of the officers with the ax and the officer shot the man in response.

Police say paramedics responded and the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police have not released the name of the man or the names of the officers involved in the shooting.
