Santa's Castle is once again getting ready for Christmas. The nonprofit organization provides Christmas toys to children of Ft. Benning military families. Some of these families are facing financial hardships and organizer Sara Donlin says that number has increased in recent years with the economic recession.
Each child receives about $125 worth of toys. The parents are allowed to come in and select their children's toys, which means they're what the kids would want. Donlin says the moment of helping the families with the selection is overwhelming.
In 2012, more than 750 Ft. Benning children received toys from the Santa's Castle organization. They buy those toys through donations and fundraising. On Saturday, you're invited to participate in the Santa's Castle 5k & 1 Mile Family Fun Run. The festivities also include a costume contest, a mini carnival and an appearance by the Doughboy football team. To get involved or register, go to www.santascastlebenning.org.
