GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Every year both Greenville and Chapel Hill both throw large Halloween parties that attract revelers from far and near, but a ranking from ‘Elite Daily’ has East Carolina as the ‘Top Halloween Party School.’

The website listed the top five schools that are known for their Halloween festivities noting “While most schools try to put on dazzling shows and boisterous parties every year, some stand above the rest to make Halloween their shining moment.”

The Ranking is as follows:

#5 UC Santa Barbara

#4 Ohio Wesleyan University

#3 University of North Carolina

#2 University of Wisconsin-Madison

#1 East Carolina University

UNC coming in at number three may be alarming to the Tar Heel faithful. The listing describes the school by saying: “University of North Carolina may not be on Princeton’s list of wildest party schools, but that doesn’t stop them from throwing a killer Halloween bash every year. According to PubClub.com, about 75,000 students and guests head to Franklin Street to party from 9 pm. until 1:30 a.m. Top of the Hill is a restaurant and brewery with rooftop seating for those who want to view the costumed masses on Franklin.”

The East Carolina Halloween party has been well known for decades. The Halloween riot of 1975 is still often referenced amongst ECU alum. The downtown party scene and the university’s on campus ‘Midnight Madness’ earned the top spot. Here is how the ranking describes the East Carolina festivities:

“All ECU Pirates anticipate Halloween in Greenville, NC. The event dubbed “Midnight Madness” floods Fifth Street with costumed crowds. Onlookers peer down from downtown rooftops to view the festivities. According to PubClub.com, “Fifth Street is like Mardi Gras on Halloween.” The police department shuts down six blocks for the party.”
