VALLEY, Ala. -

Jeriko Martez Harris turned himself in at the Valley Police Department at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

A warrant for Capital Murder had been issued for the arrest of Harris after a 26-year-old Valley man was fatally shot twice while driving his car Saturday evening.

Police said they originally got a call around 6 p.m. to respond to a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of Richmond Street and Cusseta Road. But when they arrived they found Acquera Monquail Story suffering from gunshot wounds.

A passenger in Story's car told detectives they had just turned east onto Huguley Road when a white car traveling in the opposite direction opened fire on them with a rifle-type weapon. The witness identified the shooter as 30-year-old Jeriko Martez Harris of Valley.

The accident happened in Mickey Macclelland's backyard. He spent Sunday cleaning up what was left from the accident.

"We thought it was just a wreck at first," says Macclelland. "We pulled up here and the car was sitting in the ditch and glass was everywhere. It was definitely totaled."

Macclelland says the area used to be a nice area, but has seen an increase in crime the past few years.

"When we first moved here, this was such a peaceful place," says Macclelland. "The neighborhood was great, but here in the last 4 years, it has really gone down."

Macclelland has lived in the neighborhood for about 10 years. He says his family has thought about moving because of the crime.

No motive for the shooting has been identified yet. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
