State attorney will not prosecute domestic violence shooter

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

The Hillsborough County State Attorney's office has decided it will not prosecute Vickie Rock for shooting and killing 56-year old Daniel Robertson. Investigators say Robertson was attacking his girlfriend at a Brandon apartment complex in August when Rock intervened. "I hear her, a woman screaming, somebody please help me. Please help me. He's killing me. He's killing me. Over and over again." Said Rock. "He was killing her. Was I going to stand there and let him kill her? Or was I going to do something? I did something."

Rock grabbed a handgun from her friend and confronted Robertson. She says she told him she had a gun and deputies were on the way. Rock says Robertson started yelling and attacking her. She fired off one shot and missed. Then, she says, she got the upper hand. "And when he got real close to this side, I popped off another round. And, about that time, I got this overwhelming amount of strength and I just leveled off and shot him." Robertson died at the scene.

The shooting happened ten years after her brother, Chuck, was killed in a domestic violence case. On August 16th, 2003, her Chuck Rock passed away. At a trial in 2006, Joshua Singletary testified he doused Rock with gas and then set him on fire. He died just days later. Singletary says Rock's ex-girlfriend, Beth Williams, urged him to kill Rock saying, "it would get his attention." Singletary is now serving a 40-year prison sentence, Williams is serving a life sentence. Vickie Rock says she thinks about her brother, and what he went through, every day.
