Parking in downtown Raleigh just got more expensive

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Effective Monday, Sept. 30, rates for street parking in the heart of downtown Raleigh have now increased.

The new rates are for street parking in the "purple zone" downtown. Streets within the zone are Fayetteville Street, bounded by Morgan Street to the north, Wilmington Street to the east, Lenoir Street to the south and Salisbury Street to the west.

The hourly rates for street parking in this zone have increased from $1 per hour to $1.25 per hour. The rate for 15-minute parking will increase from $0.25 to $0.50 and the 30-minute rate has jumped from $0.50 to $0.75.

Parking pay stations have a color decal attached to the top of each station to make the identification of the parking zone easier. The rate increase is part of Raleigh's 2013-14 fiscal year budget.

The rates in other zones throughout downtown remain unchanged.
