As doctors everywhere push sunscreen to prevent skin cancers and advise us to swear off tanning beds, still 1 in 3 young Caucasian women are heading to their local tanning bed.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) researchers say 29 percent of these young women use tanning beds. What's worrying is that this statistic has remained unchanged for years, despite warnings from health experts.
Past studies show that young people who use tanning beds increase their risk of many types of skin cancer. It's not surprising that these cancers are on the rise, especially in young, white women.
The solution is simple. Young women should avoid tanning beds. But, either they aren't getting the message, or they're choosing to ignore it.
