Cougars intense as Pacelli game approaches

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Friday, Brookstone and Pacelli square off in the latest installment of the Battle for the Broocelli Jug.

The series has been dominated by the Cougars of late, but as the two teams prepare to meet, the roles have been reversed. Pacelli leads region 4-A with a perfect 4-0 record, while Brookstone finds itself middle-of-the-pack at 2-2 overall.

"We always take Pacelli seriously," said senior fullback/linebacker Stephen Poydasheff. "Rivals like that, you never know how you're going to play or how they're going to play, or if they're going to play up to you, so you have to take it seriously all the time."

For head coach Brad Dehem, this is his first Battle where he knows what to expect. The second-year coach said he didn't fully appreciate his first go-round.

"Last year, I didn't really understand what this week was about until I really got my teeth into it," he said. "I know no matter what happened last week or earlier in the season for us, there's nothing special I need to do to motivate my kids this week. They are fired up and ready to go."

The upperclassmen on the team say the only way for the younger players to know what to expect is to play in the game.

"It's not something you can prepare for," Poydasheff said. "It's something that, once you get into, they'll start to understand. It doesn't really come after the first game, or after the first time you've played Pacelli, but it's kind of something that develops over the years."

Pacelli will be the sight of the first ever News 3 Friday Night Tailgate this week. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Instead of destroying them, The Columbus Police Department is selling hundreds of seized guns. Some of the guns were used in crimes, others were found on the road- all of them now headed back to the streets.“The policeman in me says I’d rather not see that gun back on the street, we’ve already gotten a hold of it once, but you’ve got 550 guns- will every one of them be used in a crime? No. Some of them will be sold to someone that will enjoy the use of that gun for the rest of their life and ...
