The Lee County Sheriff's Office says James Wesley Meadows, 44, of Smiths Station, Alabama is under arrest on multiple counts of Receiving Stolen Property and various drug charges.
Meadows is accused of receiving goods stolen from Columbus, GA; Harris County, GA; Lanett, Phenix City, and Russell County in Alabama.
During a search at Meadows' home in the 400 block of Lee Road 485 in Smiths Station on October 1, 2013, authorities recovered an air compressor, pressure washer, sand blaster, electric generator, ark welder, leaf blower, weed-eater, and miscellaneous tools which had been reported stolen from Harris County, Georgia. A Triumph motorcycle which had been reported stolen to the Russell County Sheriff's Office and a Smith and Wesson 38 revolver were recovered that had been reported stolen in Columbus, GA. During this search, the officers also recovered (11) eleven firearms and three (3) fire proof safes. Meadows was arrested and charged with (2) two counts of Receiving Stolen Property in the First Degree and (1) one count of Receiving Stolen Property in the Second Degree.
Lee County Sheriff's Investigators obtained a second warrant for the residence. During that October 2, 2013 search of the home and the three safes that were recovered, authorities found methamphetamines and other illegal drug contraband. The search of the residence revealed approximately (60) sixty firearms, a boat, a golf cart, motorcycles, and approximately ($2,500.00) Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars in US Currency. Many of these items have been identified as stolen property from Columbus, GA; Harris County, GA; Lanett, Alabama; Phenix City, Al; and Russell County, Al. Several of the recovered weapons have been linked to recent Lee County residential burglaries.
Meadows also is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine, Unlawful Distribution of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Drug paraphernalia.
Meadows is currently being held at the Lee County Detention Facility without bond pending investigation. These cases remain under investigation and additional charges and arrests are expected.
