All eyes on Karen

Posted: Updated:

Tropical Storm Karen is still churning in the Gulf of Mexico. It is forecast to make landfall near New Orleans late tomorrow then head northeast, passing awfully close to Columbus. We can't focus on the exact track because the worst of the storm is actually on the eastern side as it's being sheared apart by strong upper level winds. These winds are keeping Karen from strengthening, that and dry air aloft. These are GOOD things! That means Karen won't be as strong as it passes close to us and won't bring as much wind. The heaviest rains will fall east of the center, so the ultimate track will decide what we see LATE SUNDAY/EARLY MONDAY. After that, a cold front scopes Karen out of the southeast and ushers in much nicer weather Tuesday through Friday.

Friday Night: Few more clouds. Lows near 64

SATURDAY: Partly sunny most of the day. Clouds increase late. Highs near 88.

Saturday Night: Clouds increase. Lows near 68.

SUNDAY:  Spotty showers early, with scattered showers later. Southeast winds at 15-25 mph. High: 80

Sunday Night: Rain and wind. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Lows near 67

MONDAY: Rain and wind still around for the first part of the day. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Highs climb to near 80

Monday night: Some clearing. Low: 59

TUESDAY:  Mostly sunny. High: 79

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows near 58.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs near 81.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows near 59.

THURSDAY:  Mostly sunny. Highs near 81.
