GARNER, N.C. -

One person is dead after a car was hit by an Amtrak passenger train Friday night in Garner.

The car, driven by 59-year-old Robin Downes Mozafaripour, of Raleigh, was near the intersection of Vandora Springs and Garner roads when it was hit by the train around 9:45 p.m.

"I was coming out of church and there was a car sitting on the train track," said witness Tyler Julian. "The whistle blew and the car didn't move."

"I don't know why she wasn't moving," Julian said. "She may have just had car trouble. I don't know.

Garner Police said Mozafaripour was traveling east on Garner Road and turned right onto Vandora Springs Road.  She then ran off the road to the right and her vehicle got stuck on the railroad tracks.

Julian said when the train hit, she jumped out of her car in tears and called 911. She explained to the operator that she did not see any movement inside the car.

Garner Police said there were no reports of injuries on board the train.

The Amtrak train was traveling from New York to Miami. It was scheduled to arrive in Raleigh at 9 p.m. The train left the scene of the collision around 11:30 p.m.
