Corrections officer under arrest after car chase on I-75

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Hillsborough County deputies apprehended and arrested Madison Correctional Institute employee after he led them on a high-speed car chase.

According to the FHP report, Andre Darnell Burgess, 28, was at work when his supervisor asked him to leave because of his unbecoming behavior. Burgess came home drunk, tackled and tried to strangle his wife and then took off, according to the report.

FHP caught up with him after he had hit a car near a gas station by Interstate 75 and State Road 54. After a trooper approached his car, Burgess cursed at him and drove off. The trooper initiate a chase with speeds of over 90 miles per hour, according to FHP.

Burgess was stopped and arrested in Hillsborough County, troopers said. He was not cooperative, was angry and resisted the detention officers. They had to use restrains and a spit sock hood on him.
 
Authorities charged him with aggravated fleeing and eluding at high speeds with property damage, including other charges.
Tallahassee Police are investigating him for attempted homicide by strangulation, according to the FHP report.

Burgess told the officers he had consumed a lot of alcohol mixed with energy drinks. Officials continue to investigate the case.
