TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Tampa Bay Buccaneer General Manager Mark Dominik confirmed a third player has been diagnosed with a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection. 

A new strategy is being deployed. "
where we have some specific, what we call source control that we perform in the players themselves using a disinfectant for the skin" said Dr. Deverick Anderson. 
 
Bucs officials will not release the name of the latest player infected, however NFL.com, citing two sources familiar with the situation reported that the player is rookie cornerback Johnthan Banks. Buccaneer officials say Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (DICON) Co-Director Dr. Deverick J. Anderson, addressed the team and Buccaneers staff earlier on Friday. 

Coach Greg Schiano is determined to win this fight. "I think right now, it's we gotta get this thing gone. And whatever that's gonna take we're gonna do. And we're not gonna go overboard, but whatever it's gonna take with the smartest people in the world who know how to fix this. That's what we're gonna do and listen to them" he said.

Team officials say over the past two months the Buccaneers organization has been working with the world-renowned DICON and other infectious disease specialists to treat and educate its players, sanitize its training facility and install new health and safety protocol.

On Thursday Dominik said guard Carl Nicks is being treated for a recurrence of the MRSA infection in his left foot.

Nicks was originally diagnosed with MRSA in late August and missed the remainder of the preseason and the first two games of the regular season.

A second player, kicker Lawrence Tynes was diagnosed with MRSA in August.

MRSA is a staph infection that is resistant to some antibiotics.
