EBT systems operational again after system failure

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Many of the nation's 46 million Americans who use food stamps were stranded at store checkouts across the country for most Saturday.

Shoppers in 17 states, including Georgia and Alabama, had to abandon their baskets when their EBT cards would not work.

Vendor, Xerox Corp. Said Saturday the EBT systems experienced temporary connectivity issues after a routine check resulted in the a system failure.

Xerox runs the EBT machines in all the states affected, from Maine to California.

Officials were working to fix the issue and around 9:30 EDT stores in the Columbus area were able to process EBT payments again.
