Marshall to start, Johnson to play role against Texas A&M

AUBURN, Ala. -

Gus Malzahn Tuesday morning that junior Nick Marshall will start at quarterback for Auburn's game Saturday against Texas A&M.

Marshall missed last week' 62-3 drubbing of Western Carolina—in which Jeremy Johnson made his collegiate debut, throwing for 201 yards on 17-of-21 passing for three touchdowns—after a minor knee injury the week before against Ole Miss.

However, Marshall practiced all week and Malzahn did not seem concerned about any rust.

"He was locked in during practice last week," he said. "He practiced Sunday, looked good, got him another week of practice. We're past the midway point. If it was early in the season I'd be concerned, but [I'm] not too concerned now."

In playing Saturday, Johnson lost his redshirt, and therefore a year of eligibility. Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee both said there would be packages installed for Johnson in the offense moving forward, though they each declined to give specifics.

Auburn will take the field Saturday ranked no. 24 in the country in the latest AP poll. Texas A&M came in at no. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
