NC panel calling for fairer redistricting to meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

A non-partisan group that wants fairness in government is holding a meeting to talk about how North Carolina can change its redistricting laws.

The NC Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform is meeting Wednesday night at the Caldwell Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. The group is bringing together a panel to discuss how to make the drawing of districts fairer and presenting a copy of a bill it wants passed in the Legislature.

The group says the current practice of letting the political party in power draw U.S. House and state legislative districts creates districts where candidates have to be extremely partisan to win primaries, shutting out more moderate voices.

The panel will also meet in Wilmington on Oct. 30.
