Tampa International Airport takes to Twitter

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - The @FlyTPA Twitter account of the Tampa International Airport provides help to travelers giving them an outlet for everything from bragging about vacation to complaining about the service, to asking about a lost bag.

Justin Meyer, the Director of Air Service Development, runs the account. He's says it's been going for a few years but recently, Meyer's stepped up the interaction.

"The information that's available through the Twitter stream is information about what our customers are saying about us that we would've paid thousands of dollars for just ten years ago," Meyer said.

The highlights of Meyer's Twitter career include tweets from celebrities like Rays' pitcher David Price. He also likes helping the everyday passengers. He helped one customer find a lost bag.

"We connected that person with the airline on social media," Meyer said. "It would've taken a lot longer if the customer called the airline or waited in line."

Cathy Walter, who was flying from Florida to Texas, says the account is a great place to get help.

"Honestly, I don't know where I'd go for help in an airport," Walter said. "I'd probably start with the airlines but there might not be anyone available. It would take some time to figure out what to do if I had a question for sure."

Meyer says most people don't even see the information stations in the airports anymore because they're glued to their phones. He adds they're not planning to get rid of the traditional help spots anytime soon.
