COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Columbus Free Roaming Cat Spay/Neuter Program kicks-off in Columbus Wednesday evening.

Columbus Animal Care & Control was recently awarded a $58,250 grant from Pet Smart Charities to start the program. The money will be used to purchase cat traps and dens as well as the cost to spay or neuter 1,000 free-roaming cast in Muscogee County.

A meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wed. Oct. 16 to discuss the process for the program as well as information on trapping, neutering and returning cats to their original habitat.

Anyone interested in beginning a free roaming cat colony or who have cats in their area that need to be spayed or neutered are asked to come to the Citizens Service Center Community Room on Macon Road.

Anyone with questions on the program can call Columbus Animal Care and Control at 706-653-4512.
