Second Chances: DH Conley Coach giving back after kidney transplant

GREENVILLE, N.C. -

It’s all about second chances in Greenville.

9 on your side first reported on DH Conley JV Girls Basketball Coach William Knight in 2012. He needed a kidney transplant so the girls on his team created a website hoping to find a donor.

Coach Knight got his kidney and he’s back out on the court.

Now, a year later, the team’s joining Coach Knight to encourage people to become organ donors.

 “To sign up a person to be an organ donor can save 8 lives and help 80 people. If you believe in life after death this is it. There's no need of taking your organs with you in this world when you can give them back to help someone. In fact, someone died so I could live. This is why I'm here talking about it. I just...it's a blessing. It really is,” said Knight.

Knight and the team are hosting a basketball jamboree. It’s November 9th in the Conley gym. It will include a health fair and blood drive.

Knight and the team are challenging other teams around the east to join in the fight for awareness.
