Fire damages Ybor convenience store

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - It took 50 Tampa firefighters a half an hour to battle a 2-alarm fire in East Tampa early Thursday morning, Tampa Fire Rescue officials said. According to the fire officials, nobody was injured. Tampa Police closed the street for a few hours as a result of the fire.

The first TFR crew responded to the Family Super Store located at 3623 North 22nd St. at about 1 a.m. Thursday. They saw heavy smoke coming from the door and the roof. After they forced their way in, they had to call for the second crew because of the fire intensity.

The firefighters battled the blaze for over 30 minutes. They stayed at the store for almost 4 hours to put out hot spots. The convenience store sustained significant damage, fire officials said, but they haven't given an estimated property damage yet.

Tampa Police officers responded to the fire as well. They closed North 22nd Street from East 31 to East 26 avenues for a while, reopening it around 7:30 a.m.

Tampa Fire Marshall investigators will work to determine the cause of the fire and the damage loss figures.

Fire officials said, neither firefighters nor civilians were injured in the fire.
