Athletes of the Week: Harris County Tigers

HAMILTON, Ga. -

After an eight-game winning streak propelled them to the playoffs in 2012, the Harris County Tigers appears to have the same momentum in 2013.

The Tigers are 5-1 after a thrilling, come-from-behind, go-for-two-with-no-time-on-the-clock, 31-30 win over Bainbridge last Friday.

"We were moving the ball fairly well, and we just kind of took a chance," said head coach Tommy Parks. "Anytime you go for two, you know it has to be a situation where you trust the kids to execute the play and execute the situation, and they didn't let us down."

The game-winning play was a read from senior quarterback Taquon Marshall.

"We started to get confidence in ourselves," Marshall said. "We ran inside zone, and I saw on my presnap read that everybody was in the box, and we kind of knew they were going to bring a lot of guys, so I decided to pull it and my receivers gave great blocks, and kind of sacrificed my body to get in the end zone for the two point conversion to get ahead by one."

The Tigers go into Friday's game against Northside in second in the region, a game behind Lee County. Parks thinks the Bainbridge win will pay big dividends.

"Our kids are battle-tested in coming back and playing four quarters of football and strong fourth quarters and things of that nature," he said. "It was exciting to see this team do it."

Friday's game against Northside is this week's WRBL Friday Night Tailgate. News 3 will be live from Kinnett Stadium, beginning at 5:00/4:00 p.m. CT.
