Eufaula Mayor calls for patience while investigation continues

EUFAULA, Ala. -

Eufaula Mayor Jack Tibbs is calling for patience in the wake of a police-related shooting that left a Columbus man dead.

"As we all wait for the ABI to complete its investigation and the Barbour County District Attorney to provide updates and a report, I ask for all citizens to be patient, sensitive, and considerate of others. We understand and appreciate the fact that people are anxious to learn the facts and details of what occurred. However, we have to be patient and let the ABI investigators do their jobs and conduct their investigation. The ABI is a first-rate agency with highly skilled, experienced, and qualified law enforcement professionals. We are confident the ABI will conduct a thorough, complete investigation, said Tibbs."

Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be given to the District Attorney.

"I caution the public against spreading misinformation and rumors during the course of this investigation. That is not productive or beneficial to anyone involved. If we can come together patiently and prayerfully as a community, Eufaula will be better served in the long run."

Cameron Massey, 26, of Columbus was killed Tuesday afternoon in a police-related shooting in the parking lot of the One Stop 431 Wrecker Service.

An event permit has been granted for a peaceful march against violence on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 1:00 central time.
