FORT BRAGG, N.C. -

An 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday in Georgia.

The U.S. Army confirmed 2nd Lt. Sean C. Putnam, 23, of Peru, Vt., was killed while assisting a motorist with a flat tire in Jonesboro, Ga., around 10 p.m.

The Army said Putnam was a fire support officer in B Company, 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

"He will be greatly missed and the unit will always remember and honor Sean Putnam for his service to the nation, the White Falcons, his Paratroopers, and his family," said Lt. Col. Eric M. Berdy, commander of the 2-325th AIR. "Once a White Falcon, always a White Falcon. May he rest in peace."

The crash that killed Putnam also injured six others on Interstate 285 in Jonesboro and remains under investigation according to the Clayton County Police Department.

Putnam joined the Army in May 2012. He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in April 2013, according to the Army.
