Chilly nights, pleasant days

RPM model forecast: Thursday A.M. temperatures RPM model forecast: Thursday A.M. temperatures

We're beginning a stretch of sunny, cool weather that will last at least through the upcoming weekend.  Highs today may reach 70º only in some areas, accompanied by a brisk northwesterly breeze.

Then we're in for our coldest night in some time.  Temperatures will drop close to 40 degrees and may reach the upper 30s in select locations.  Winds will diminish from today's gusty levels, but won't likely go calm except in sheltered areas.  If we reach the forecast low of 41º in Columbus, it would be our coldest morning since April 20, but not a record low for the date; that stands at a frosty 37º, set in 1974.

Thursday night another cold front will arrive, bringing little in the way of weather other than a minor wind shift.  The air mass moving in behind will be even cooler, with Friday's high only in the mid-60s and the low Saturday morning dropping to near 40.  With the high pressure center close by, winds will diminish to light or calm in most spots, conditions for light frost in areas that are prone to be a bit colder in such cases.  Air temperatures won't drop to the freezing mark but mid to upper 30s are a possibility.

Some moderation in temperatures is expected early next week, but rain will remain out of the forecast until at least the end of the week.
