'Run to Read' 5K and 10K run and 1.5 mile walk to be held Nov. 2

According to a news release, "Aubie and Auburn's Kappa Kappa Gamma will be on hand to assist with the sixth annual Jean Dean Reading is Fundamental "Run to Read" to be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Floral Park in Opelika. Reading is Fundamental puts books in the hands and homes of at-risk preschoolers. Register online until Oct. 29 or register at Big Dog Running on Nov. 1. Race-day registration will be held on site beginning at 7 a.m. Start times for the three events will be staggered. The 10K run will begin at 8:10 a.m.; the 5K run at 8:15 a.m.; and the 1.5 mile walk at 8:20 a.m. Children's activities will also be hosted. Those registered will receive a T-shirt, a gift bag with coupons from local businesses and will be entered to win door prizes and a week's vacation in Hilton Head."

    An Amber Alert has been canceled after 2-year old Maliah Harris was found safe in Georgia. Her 7-month-old sibling, Alyssa, was found dead and Maliah disappeared from a Mississippi home which prompted authorities to issue the alert. The girls parents, Donald Boyd Harris,34, and Allison Studdard, 31, are now in custody.
