Six locations set for prescription drug disposal event Saturday

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. -

At least six locations will be accepting "no questions asked" prescription drugs for Saturday's nationwide drug disposal event. Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies are teaming up to collect expired, unused and unwanted pills.

The seventh National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held Saturday. Participants will be able to drop off the pills at sites across the state free of charge and with no questions asked.

Locations across the Chattahoochee River valley include:

  • Russell County Sheriff's Office, located at 305 Prentiss Drive in Phenix City
  • Phenix City Police Department, located within the Walmart at 3700 280 Bypass
  • Phenix City Police Department, located at 1111 Broad Street
  • Phenix City Police Department, located within the Central Activity Center at 1500 14th Street
  • Fort Benning Military Police, located within the Fort Benning Main Exchange at Build 9222 on Marine Road
  • Lee County Sheriff's Office, located at Beauregard Drugs on 7667 AL Hwy 51 in Opelika

The Drug Enforcement Administration says the event aims to prevent drug abuse and theft.

People across the country have turned in nearly 2.8 million pounds of prescription drugs during the DEA's six previous Take-Back Days.  A similar drug disposal event was held in late April. DEA officials say more than 370 tons of prescription medications were collected from more than 5,800 collection sites across the country.
