COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Hundreds of families all over the Columbus area dressed up and headed to Woodruff Park for the 12th Annual Spooktacular Event.

More than 30 different organizations handed out candy to children and teens dressed in costumes like skeletons, pirates and princesses. Adults even joined in the festivities.

"We really just wanted the community to come out and celebrate Halloween in a safe and fun environment," said Elizabeth Hurst Vice President of Community Relations and Marketing for Uptown Columbus.

There was a costume contest for children ages 0-12 years old. There were several prizes given out from Uptown. This year groups could also participate. Families or friends dressed in group costumes had their chance to compete for prizes as well.
