VALLEY, Ala. -

Two men are under arrest in Valley, Ala. after a hit-and-run car accident and police chase.

Tuesday morning Valley police officers were called to a hit-and-run accident at the Capital City Bank in Shawmut. The suspect vehicle, a gold Chevy Malibu occupied by two white males, was reported to have been traveling south on US Highway 29.

Officers located the Malibu near Langdale Cemetery. When police tried to stop the car, the suspects fled, leading officers in a chase that ended on 22nd Avenue where the suspects ran from their vehicle. The abandoned car rolled into a utility shed in the back of a residence.

The passenger of the vehicle, 18-year-old Cory Jonathan Hudson of Valley, was immediately taken into custody. Hudson was wanted on several warrants from Lafayette. A subsequent search of Hudson revealed a drug smoking device. He was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The driver, 21-year-old Jonathan Michael Adams of Valley tried to escape by jumping into the Chattahoochee River and swimming away. Lt. Johnny Wood of the Chambers County Drug Task Force and Officer Blake Brown of the Valley Police Department saw that Adams was struggling and appeared to be in distress. Both officers entered the water and kept Adams afloat until the arrival of the Swift Water Rescue Team from the East Alabama Fire Department. Adams was subsequently charged with Attempting to Elude and Driving while Suspended.
