Synovus donates more than 125 bags of food to Columbus backpack program

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

As a part of their 125th anniversary, Synovus donated more than 125 bags of food to a Columbus backpack program. Wynnton United Methodist Church packs more than 40 backpacks a week filled with different food items like pop tarts and soup for children at Wynnton Art Academy. Gwen Sass, head of the Backpack for Grace program, said the donation is overwhelming.

"It's just humbling to know that people care enough to want to help these children. They don't know who these children are. They don't know their names, anything about them, but they want to help," said Gwen Sass.

These free bags of food go to feed children over the weekends for the entire school year. This is the first year the church has provided these backpacks. They hope to feed even more students next year.
