COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Deidre Johnson has joined WRBL-TV as co-anchor of the station's morning newscasts.

Johnson joins Tammy Terry and Senior Meteorologist Kurt Schmitz on the anchor desk for the station's two-hour newscast that airs Monday-Friday beginning at 5 a.m. Eastern/4 a.m. Central.

"I'm thrilled to join the News 3 On Your Side team," said Deidre Johnson. "Being asked to co-anchor the morning newscasts with Tammy and Kurt is an honor and privilege. I look forward to telling the stories that matter the most and starting the day with the WRBL viewers. "

Johnson comes to WRBL from WXIA-TV in Atlanta, where she worked as a writer and traffic producer for the NBC affiliate.

"We are very excited to have Deidre on our team," said WRBL Vice- President and General Manager David Hart. "She brings major market experience in helping produce the kind of On Your Side morning newscast today's viewers are looking for – with the latest overnight news and a forward-looking approach to give them all the information they need to start their day."

Prior to working in Atlanta, Johnson was a reporter and anchor at WJCL and WTGS in Savannah, where she anchored and produced the weekend newscasts on the ABC and Fox stations. She also has experience working as an anchor and reporter in Dothan.

Johnson holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from Spelman College and a Masters of Science in Media Arts and Journalism from Clarion University.

"Deidre is very warm and personable," added Hart. "She has developed a great chemistry with both Tammy and Kurt, giving us a morning team that I know our viewers will connect to as well."
