Young Ahead Of Byrne In New Poll

Posted: Updated:
MOBILE, Alabama -

Dean Young and Bradley Byrne are still neck and neck in a close race.

"I want them to know that I want to help, that I'll go up there and turn things around. I'll do my best to be the best representative they've ever had," says Young.

A new poll conducted by Montgomery-based firm Cygnal shows Young with 43.2% of the vote, while Byrne trails with 40.2%. Young, who is running as the candidate who is not a career politician, believes his message is now being heard.

"We're excited. We knew something was up about a week ago when Bradley Byrne started running those horrible commercials lying about me. They knew the numbers were going down and that was an act of desperation," he says.

Bradley Byrne was unable to comment on camera Thursday afternoon. He was attending his brother's funeral at the time. However, his campaign is aware of the new poll.

"We are going to win. It's a close race and there's a lot at risk for South Alabama," says a member of Byrne's staff.

Byrne's camp tells News 5 they have conducted their own polls and the numbers aren't adding up with Cygnal's poll.

So far in the campaign, Byrne has outspent his opponent with campaign contributions.
