TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -

The top-ranked Alabama football team began on-field preparations for this weekend's SEC clash with No. 10 LSU with a two-hour practice in shells Monday on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.

Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron was selected as one of 16 semifinalists on Monday afternoon for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. The senior from Mobile has thrown for 16 touchdowns and 1,862 yards while completing 69.4 percent of his passes. McCarron has a 33-2 (.943) career record that is the best in SEC history while compiling as many national championships as losses.

The Crimson Tide and Tigers are scheduled to kickoff at just after 7 p.m. Saturday on CBS from Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Tide have won two straight in the series and own a 47-25-2 edge in the series.
