HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. -

A school bus driver has been charged after two Orange County school buses were involved in a collision Tuesday afternoon in Hillsborough.

Orange County Schools said one of the buses from Pathways Elementary School slowed down and the other bus hit it from behind.

Four children were injured and transported to Duke Hospital in Durham. The injuries do not appear to be serious.

The accident occurred on Strouds Creek Road near Pathways Elementary.

The remaining students were transported back to Pathways, and they are at the school library waiting to be picked up.

A total of 59 students were on board the two buses.

The driver of the bus that rear-ended the other bus has been charged with failing to reduce speed to avoid colliding with a motor vehicle. The driver who has been charged is Phillip Rudy. The other bus driver has been identified as Hugo Clark.

Both drivers are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the school system's investigation, which will include going through school bus video and information from the Highway Patrol.
