Fayetteville police identify 2 suspects in robbery, rape

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Fayetteville police released the names of two suspects who are accused of robbing an Advanced Auto Parts store and sexually assaulting a female employee Nov. 2.

Police identified the suspects as Cortese Tramond Davis, 23, of 427 Vass Road in Spring Lake and Paul Merinord Smith, 20, of 12 Timberland Lane in Dunn.

Both suspects have been charged with first-degree rape, two counts first-degree sexual offense, first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon of a business, robbery with a dangerous weapon of a person, and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police said Davis and Smith entered the business, approached two employees and asked about a part for an automobile. One of the robbers produced a gun and demanded money.

Both of the suspects then moved the employees to the rear of the store, and one suspect sexually assaulted the woman while the other employee was held at gunpoint.

Another Advance Auto Parts store in Lumberton was robbed about an hour later.
