NCDOT urges safety for motorists at rail crossings

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The N.C. Department of Transportation is renewing efforts to get motorists to take it easy when they reach a railroad crossing.

The department's rail division is scheduling a series of events across the state to make its point. The BeRailSafe Rail Crossing Safety Blitz begins Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the tracks on N.C. 43 and N.C. 117 in Faison.

During the event, NCDOT's Rail Division, local law enforcement, railroad police will hand out safety tips to drivers as they approach rail crossings. Those materials help educate them about potential dangers on and around the tracks and how to stay safe.

In addition, thousands of cards, printed in English and Spanish, will be distributed to drivers at the Faison crossing.
