1 arrested in early morning shooting in Raleigh

Police arrested a man Monday in connection with a shooting early Monday morning in Raleigh.

Raleigh police were dispatched to the 3100 block of Kingstree Court in response to a reported shooting around 2 a.m. Monday.

When officers arrived to the scene, they found a man who had been shot multiple times. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Alshawn Martel Thomas.

Thomas was taken to WakeMed for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Police later arrested Paul Emanuel Gainey, 23, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and with possession with a firearm by a convicted felon.

He is being held at the Wake County Detention Center.

The investigation of the shooting is ongoing.
